Chinese Medicine – Summer Cooling Foods for Healing

Chinese Medicine and Summer time is yang and expanding in nature. This energy is moving out and upwards with new growth and shoots growing in the garden. People who suffer from headaches and migraines will find this time of year make their condition worse. Other health concerns such as constipation, acne and high blood pressure can be aggravated due to the summer heat which is drying to the whole body unless the consumption of the correct food counterbalances.

According to traditional Chinese Medicine “warming foods” raise circulation and qi or vital energy where as “cooling foods” help clear heat and toxins from the body.  To balance the heat to your body during summer it is important to drink 1.5 to 2 litres of water, herbal tea or barley water recipe here to keep the whole body hydrated.
